Philosophy
IALAC is a word that was created by the Mrs. Christine Watson Avery, the center's namesake. It stands for
“I Am Loved And Cared for.”
Christine W. Avery, a school teacher and Pastor’s wife, believed that every person was special in their own way and deserving of love and care. Her approach towards education included demonstrating a genuine concern for the individual, and reinforcing their self-efficacy, confidence, and sense of belonging through tough love and care

Programs

Early Learning
At Christine W. Avery Learning Center, early learners are independent explorers whose minds are developing rapidly. CWA provides a safe environment that supports their development. Our youngest scholars begin to participate in structured activities that are designed to encourage the development of their fine and gross motor skills, speech, listening skills, comprehension skills, and early literacy skills.

NC Pre-K
The NC Pre-K Program is designed to provide high-quality educational experiences to enhance school readiness for eligible four-year-old children. The NC Pre-K Program Requirements are built on the National Education Goals Panel’s premise that to be successful academically in school, children need to be prepared in all five of the developmental domains that are critical to children’s overall well-being and success in reading and math as they enter school:

Out of School Time Programs
Our After-School program provides a comprehensive and engaging experience for students, running from Monday to Friday, from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. We are committed to fostering academic development and offer various resources to support our students' learning journey, including homework assistance, tutoring, and academic skill-building sessions

The CWA Marching Band is apart of our comprehensive music education program that includes experiential music education as well as, drumline, dance, audio-visual production, and performance training. The program supports discipline, leadership development, teamwork, and creative expression while serving as a positive afterschool engagement strategy.
